Creative Briefcase Game
(Started a new round on December 30, 2023 with friends on social media. Guidelines for the game are offered as a model for sharing inspiration in community.)
In 2003 my best friend and I started a creative pen pal situation with a briefcase, her poetry, and my images. It goes something like this…
I randomly pick prints of 3 images from the Stories series, whatever else I find that wants to go in there, pack them up, and send them to you. You work with the images as you feel inspired. Write stories or poetry, create recipes, make a map, cut my prints up with magazines and make collage, draw, paint, make prints or other types of image, record music, design an RPG, make a shrine or altar or ritual or costume, go for a walk and take pictures, pick up leaves, seed pods, *gasp* bones (I’ll love you forever)… whatever.
Take a picture, print a copy, again whatever, of your creation and send it back. I will then repeat the process with the things you send me, and send you something back. The goal is to have it go back and forth, following the thread of shared inspiration and see where it goes, until we get tired of it.
Please note:
Your work does not have to look or feel like mine does, or use my imagery in any way for that matter. It really is all about how you are personally inspired and what you want to do with that inspiration.
If you want a deadline, I can give you one. If you don’t end up making and sending back anything, now or ever, that is completely okay.
I will keep generating images either way, but it would be really interesting to collaborate and see what we can collectively spawn.
